You could probably buy, drive, and maintenance that thing for less than any new luxury car on the market right now

Hell, you can buy it for less than most new economy cars on the market.

great color on that too. Only issue is finding ignition parts for that age right now. Would look good under the tree though

I'd expect a 30 year old Roller to have some major maintenance items/issues come up even with the low miles. Unless you can turn your own wrenches, where does one take a car like this when something breaks? I'm guessing most indy mechanics wouldn't touch this.

Would it not be possible to convert it to and MSD type system?

Oh hell yes!

Gorgeous.
Rollers and Bent lets of this vintage have such an elegant presence to them.

The boot is filled with 1 dozen starving crazed weasels.

You'd have to take it to a specialist, like so:

But I imagine $20,000 will buy you whatever maintenance and repair that this car needs for a few years of ownership, and you'll still come in under the cost of a new FWD luxury sedan.

could you imagine opening the hood of a Roller of that vintage and not seeing all of this? But yes I believe that is the fix these days

I wouldn't dare part with the Phaeton. But I would consider adding a clean '97 Bentley Turbo R to the stable. There was a nice blue-over-ivory example for sale last year in Florida for $25K, and I nearly bought a plane ticket.

Surprisingly the engines on these are pretty bulletproof. They'd used the same one, the 6.75 litre, for donkeys years so any bugs have been ironed out.
The rest might be a bit troublesome, but I haven't really got much experience with them.

It'd be greener as well. It might use more fuel, but you'd get more mileage for the initial investment of resources, making it more efficient.
See, it's good on all fronts :)

I'd be very afraid of the hydraulic ride height control, and all its bits.
![]() 12/03/2013 at 11:39 |

Very true. I wonder whether they made them with standard suspension. Swapping to that would probably be far easier than gettign the hydraulics to work.
